The Hungarian champions are on the rise, and they managed to secure their spot in the Champions League last season. Fradi was the biggest overachiever in those quals, and they managed to knock out several big names. They eliminated Djurgarden in the first round and headed to a trip to Glasgow to face Celtic. Everybody thought it’s the end of the road for Ferencvaros, but they celebrated a 2:1 victory at Celtic Park. To get into the group stage, they were better than Dinamo Zagreb and Molde. Although Sergiy Rebrov left the position of a head coach to join Al Ain, Peter Stoger is ready to step in. Ferencvaros signed a couple of good players this summer. The most notable ones are Stjepan Loncar and Kristoffer Zachariassen, the two central midfielders. The Hungarian side was very confident in the first qualifying round by beating Prishtina 6:1 on aggregate.
Zalgiris enjoys an excellent domestic campaign as they sit on the top of the Lithuanian A Lyga. They also skipped the first step successfully, thanks to a 5:2 aggregate win over Linfield. Kyeremeh Francis and Hugo Videmont are the major threat to the oppositions’ net, while the two Serbian defenders keep the backline tight. However, the Lithuanian champions cannot count on another standard defender, Pape Djibril Diaw Elhaji, who was sent off in the second-leg match against Linfield. Uzela Karolis will also be sidelined for the same reason. Ferencvaris is a firm favorite in this clash, and we believe they can celebrate by at least two goals in front of the home fans.
